In this two-hour hands-on workshop, you’ll explore different designs, shapes, and materials for reusable cotton pads — from soft, large pads for facial cleansing and makeup removal to smaller, padded versions ideal for eye makeup. Together, we’ll look at which fabrics and hardware work best for durability, softness, and easy washing.
This session is also the perfect opportunity to learn essential sewing techniques:
you’ll practice on the sewing machines and the serger, learn what bias tape is and how to apply it, and make a few small fabric samples to understand the process step by step.
We’ll focus on technique, not production — so you won’t go home with finished pads, but you’ll gain all the skills, patterns, and digital instructions you need to make them later at your own pace in the makerspace. Our team and community will be available to guide you whenever you’re ready to start your first set.
Taught by Mélodie Melak, a professionally trained seamstress who has been making her own clothes for over 15 years, this workshop combines technical learning with sustainability — helping you build confidence at the sewing machine while reducing textile waste.
You will learn:
* The differences between pad designs and their intended uses
* Which materials and textures are most sustainable and effective
* The basics of sewing and serging, including guided machine practice
* How to work with bias tape for neat, professional finishes
* How to adapt patterns to your needs and reuse fabric scraps
* The environmental impact of switching to reusable cotton pads — less waste, fewer chemicals, and a smaller footprint
Schedule & Language:
* 2-hour session
* Maximum 6 participants per session (small group learning)
* Workshop language: English and/or German, depending on participants’ preference
Participation:
* For members only (Non-members cannot join this session)
* Participants receive digital instructions and patterns after the workshop
* Includes hands-on machine practice with sewing and serging
